Rotary Youth Exchange Student

July 2018 - July 2019

During my junior year of high school, I was a Rotary youth exchange student in Ciudad Del Carmen Mexico. There I was hosted by two families, the local Rotary club, and public high school. Not only did I learn a new language, but also to assimilate to a new culture, school, and environment. This experience taught me resilience, flexibility, and the value of clear communication across diverse settings. This year shaped me into the individual I am today and I could not be more thankful to those who helped me along the way.

Throughout the year multiple rotations of Doctors Without Boarders would visit my city and local towns. I was the primary interpreter over the 10 rotations. Throughout the year I volunteered 300+ hours which taught me about patient interaction and improved clinical communication. This volunteer opportunity was one of the most impactful parts of my exchange, because it set me on the path to using engineering to improve people’s quality of life.
